CANVAS
Prints
Canvas printing is the printing of an image onto canvas material. This is a specialised material that can be stretched onto a frame. Stretched canvas printing consists of three major elements; first being the image, second the canvas and lastly the frame. An image is printed onto the canvas and stretched and stapled to the frame to create a completed product. We are able to provide you with different sizes from A5, A4, A3, A2, A1 and AO. We are also able to do custom sizes, but please take note that these takes longer as the frames would have to be custom-built specifically for your job.
All you have to do is provide the image and we will do the rest. A proof will be made up and mailed back to you. Once you are happy, we will start the process. The process is rather quick, provided we have all the elements of the job on hand:
- an image approved by you,
- the appropriate size of frame,
- canvas and
- availability on the machine.
Please check with us for urgent jobs that require quick finishing times.
Canvas printing can be used for various reasons:
- In households by people wanting to showcase photographs of their children, special achievements, special occasions or their pets.
- Often people would like their own images made up to be used in their kitchens, bathrooms and even lounge and dining rooms.
- Businesses also use images to decorate their office and boardroom spaces.
- Some businesses use canvasses to display their branding and/or products.
- Hotels, corporate offices, hospitals or other institutions may choose to print canvasses to carry through a decor theme.
Images can also be bought and provided to us and we will print, for wherever you need to hang them. Images can be bought from various stock image libraries like “Shutterstock”. There are also many free images available but please ensure that quality of the images are good, otherwise you end up with a pixelated image that you have spent money to print. Please also ensure that you have the appropriate permissions to reproduce the image.
It is important to use a reputable company to print your canvasses, someone that is willing to provide you with professional advice and clear guidelines.
If you are really good with creating your own artwork on a graphics programme, the artwork can also be provided to us and we will reproduce your own work, stretched and framed. There are various ways to finish your printed canvas, one is to have it stretched onto a frame but you can also decide to have it framed or block mounted. Canvas prints may be more expensive than paper prints, but they will last a lot longer and may become family heirlooms. Canvas prints also look incredibly good in any setting, whereas framed prints can be found in any home.
Canvas prints are sophisticated and have a lovely textured finish, much like the canvas an artist would paint on.
Canvas print technology is based on advanced inkjet printing and canvasses look almost like original paintings. You can almost feel the clean brush strokes when you print paintings onto a canvas.
Canvas prints enhance many decor styles with the contemporary gallery-wrapped edges. They are also very easy to mount.
For large prints, canvas is the more affordable option that also outlasts paper because of the durable plain weaving. Canvas art is widely popular because it costs considerably less than original works. However, the fact that canvas prints costs less, does not mean that it looks low cost. Believe it or not, you can have affordable canvas art that looks expensive.
It is important to note the quality of frames that are used for stretching. The quality of frame can be the reason why some service providers are more expensive than others. Please check what frame your printer will be using – the last thing you want is for your printer to use an inexpensive frame that will only lasts a year or two. My advice is to rather pay a bit more but pay for quality.
Advantages of canvas printing:
- Longevity.
- Durability.
- Beautiful texture.
- Eco-friendly.
- No size limits.
Very durable, might fade after a very long time. You can give an artistic feel to the photo, print or image.
Traditional photos need to be framed with a lot of care. In contrast, canvases offer an easy way to display photos; only an additional border is required around the image and then it can be framed as desired.
Normal photos framed behind glass or printed on glossy paper can look stunning when displayed in the right space, but in rooms with a lot of light you find that the glare on the photograph distorts the view. The shiny finish can cause reflections, getting in the way of the viewer seeing your photo the way it was intended.
Canvas prints, on the other hand, have a satin-matte finish, making it the perfect medium to display photos in brightly-lit rooms. You can even use yellow light on the canvas to enhance the depth of colour on the canvas.
Canvas printing is considered to be the printing of the future. That is why it has many benefits over other forms of print. No longer is canvas material for someone else’s art. Your own pictures can easily be edited and enhanced as per your personal requirements and will become a once-off, unique piece of art that no-one else has.
Do you prefer wall art that is set off with a mat and frame? Or do you like a more original look without a mat and glass? These are questions to ask yourself when deciding whether you need to order paper or canvas. Fine art paper prints need to be protected by glass. Our prints are created with colour fast inks, so there is no need to do anything else but have it professionally printed and stretched or framed, if that is how you prefer to have it finished.
